To Charlie-
I just finished taking my sweet time to put you down for a nap. Dad and I have a tremendous amount of stresses and worries at this time. We have people we love who are hurting badly. We have worries about finances, about the future, about the tasks of the present and general fatigue of feeling like we are on a treadmill all the time. What keeps us going are two things. 1) We believe that God is working in our life every day and that someday we will see this time of our life and know all the lessons we learned during this time and why we had to learn them this way. 2) You guys. Your sweet natures, your delicious skin and your bright eyes and laughter make all those other things fade away for the moments that we are engaged with you.
But today’s entry is to just Charlie because I never want to forget how sweet you are right now. I changed your clothes into jammie clothes after lunch and you sat in my lap in my grandma Sue’s yellow armchair. You were laying on my lap facing out to see the book I was holding up and our cheeks were pressed together. You were listening to each book and telling me sounds that animals make and gently stroking my arm while I read. You made sweet giggly noises to me if I said something that is supposed to be funny. You say things also like, “that’s boo-ti-ful. That’s tool (cool) and how’d dat happen?” After talking me into 5 or so books, I finally brought you over to your bed. You tossed your bear and your mickey mouse into your crib. I laid you down and you said, ”rub my hair mama.” I start to rub your hair and you look at me as sweet as can be and say, “ this is dreat (great) mama.” I rubbed your hair and we looked into each other’s eyes for several minutes and then you took my hand in your hand and rubbed my hand on your cheek. Then, as if my heart was completely mush at this point, you said, “ I love you mama. I love you mama, I love you mama.” and you smiled with your eyes half open. Just so you know, in case you have not heard--- I love you Charlie.
Thank you both for giving us a direct line to the traits that God wants us to be developing the most. Love, joy, peace, patience, self-control, faithfulness, gentleness, kindness and goodness. This is what is important. If we work these out while working on you, we’re going to be just fine.
Jack today:
What is happening in this world? ( about a huge construction mess)
How awesome is that? ( about the bubbles screen saver on this computer)
Look at the large boom on that crane! ( I did not even know it was called a boom until Jack told me.)
Next week—Jack’s birthday party at the trains!
