an orange and a dowry...

Christmas is in two days! This past month has been an absolute dream come true since my entry of the all night crying adventure. I just read my entry from a year ago about Santa not being a part of our Christmas tradition. I have already learned that the key to success with this is not going to be pushing away every shred of Santa that society sends our way (like how cute it is for you to sing jungle bells) but to instead instill in our schedule the story we are most excited about and make it happen every day this month. We set up our tree, and placed our three Christmas books underneath it. One is the story of the man that Santa Claus originates from- and the book is called Saint Nicholas. I heard about it last year and bought it this year. Two other board books that tell just the straight forward story of the baby Jesus in the manger and no room at the inn. We have read them every night under the tree.

Jack- you know all three books enough that you read them along with us. You even have your own jokes- like every time they say Bethlehem- you say Arizona! and then laugh your head off. In the Saint Nicholas book, it talks about how he put gold pieces in socks for girls that needed a dowry so they could get married. Tonight when we were eating dinner, you said you wanted a snack. When I asked what you wanted- you said, " an orange or... umm. a dowry."

Charlie-- you are an absolute energy filled tank and then mold into a snuggle bug when you've used all your energy. I have previously written that you show an attitude of determination and that has really exploded on the scene. You are still so close to walking and can get anywhere (I mean anywhere) you want to go really fast. You grab cabinets and try to yank them open. Then they slam a little on your fingers and you don't care! You keep thrashing around and then move on to something else. You'll climb up on a toy, stand on your tip toes and reach for something and then fall. It won't even phase you- you'll roll to the side, grunt and get back up again.

Tonight you pooped in the bath which reminds me that I should mention- you are an adorable pooper. You really struggle through and grunt and scrunch your face. You'll look right into my eyes while you do it. You're starting to communicate more and more. You are waving now and as you have been for a few weeks, but now you are actually crunching and un-crunching your hand! You wave at me and tilt your head to the side when you see me from across the room. I always think-- "are you kidding me? you are soooo cute!" and then I squeeze and kiss you until you squirm away. Jack-- I do this to you too. I was off work today and I may possibly have kissed the two of you 1000 times.

Jack-- you are sleeping in a big boy bed! It's been 4 nights so far-- and it is going great! You were ready and I painted it Thomas train blue. You look so cute laying in your bed and tonight you even said- "I'm going to walk to my room mama and climb in my own big boy bed."

Another thing to mention about this month is that I baked some sweets and we delivered them to 5 of our neighbors-- Jack-- you marched up to the doors, helped to knock and marched through the neighborhood saying loudly "nayyyyy--bbeeerrrssss!" I did it because I like to bake, and because church encouraged us to reach out to our neighbors to look like Christ's love. But what a value it will have for you two if we keep it up.

Well-- I am so excited to see Christmas morning. Jack-- you are getting a tricycle from Aunt Stacy and a BUCKET of Thomas train stuff I got and several other things. I love our family. I love you both and I love your dad. We are so blessed. To think that we have this life and are aware of how great we have it-- it is certainly our job to serve others at all times and tell people the reason for the hope that we have. It is Jesus!

Merry Christmas my sons!
