Sometimes I find myself in a moment with one of you that I just know I will be desperate to replay in the future- so the memory of it and the recording it here will have to be enough. Yesterday afternoon after I came home from work, the weather outside was a perfect temperature and you Jack asked to go play in the backyard. We watered the plants, looked at the side gate together, cleaned off the hammock, and set up your tee ball set. I helped you set up the ball, hold the bat correctly and hit the ball across the backyard. Then, over and over again we " ran the bases" around the perimeter of the backyard. Every time we ran around the backyard, you squealed with happiness and said, " you and me mama! you and me!" I just cannot even express to you, the feeling that happened to me when I looked back at you with your hair bouncing with your strides and the sun coming through your hair. The smile on your face so genuine, innocent and joyful. In the entire world, there is nothing that could have been better than our backyard with you. I'm sure in years to come, you will find me staring at you with a smile and I will be thinking of this moment. When the entire world was in fact- you and me.
You have continued to make up for your grumpy toddler behavior of last week this morning. When I went in to your room this morning, instead of crying and whining, you reached up to me and squeezed my neck tight and asked if we could read 'little star.' Then after we read the book, you looked up at me, touched your cheek to mine and said, "mama- you in my heart, I'm in your heart." These happen to be words of a song from one your TV shows, but it still about stopped my heart again. You are certainly in my heart.
Charlie- you are so busy developing that you are up a lot at night and early in the morning. Although I am absolutely exhausted- we have had so many sweet moments as a result. One was this morning- I had time to make coffee and a bagel and sit with you in your high chair right next to me while I did my Bible study of proverbs. I prayed for you and your future wife, your safety, your learning. While I did this- you bobbed your head around and smiled and raised your eyebrows and cooed. You are so squishy cute.
