most special nap

Hello--

Your uncle Jeff and Kristen are visiting right now and today we decided to head to the Dana Point Harbor to go kayaking. While they were out on the water, I laid down with you in your little sun dome- which is a miniature tent with one side open- meant for just baby. I had my legs hanging out, holding you in my arms wrapped in a towel and laying my head on the boppy pillow. I had a perfect view of your sleeping face, your hand laid on my chest and little bits of sand on your skin ( the first ever). I listened to you breathe, the sound of the water nearby, kids playing and felt wind coming through the tent gently on us. I promise you, I spent half of the time trying to think of a time that I felt so happy and the other half of the time knowing that was it- I had never felt so happy. The euphoria I felt becoming your mom has not worn off- I know it will someday when you are whining that that I am making you leave the beach or won't let you do something ( as another boy at the beach was doing to his mom) but for now- you and I are best friends.

Jeff and Kristen have been here all week and they have adored you as well- they have spent a couple days taking care of you and they agree that you are a very happy and easy baby. I wrote them a schedule of what you should be doing at certain times and they have found that you followed your schedule as if you can read it.

This week you have continued to sleep through the night, been happy most awake time, followed your schedule- you are now bringing your foot to your mouth and sucking on your big toe on your right foot. For some reason- your left foot is not going to your mouth.

Today is September 11th- 8 years after the 2001 attacks on the Towers in New York. It is a sad day that it seems like everyone at this point just wants to get through so it can be over for another year. I am sure that by the time you grow up, it will be less raw- but for now- it is that event that everyone understands was so sad and knows where they were when it happened and what that day felt like- before this was the assassination of JFK. Which brings me to a mumlesson:

History- I want to teach you enough history in my own way through storytelling and noting things that happen around you that you will come to love the stories of the past, love knowing what has happened before you. That you will learn to respect the fact that you are not first in this world- that people have had hurts and battles and triumphs that you reap the benefits from or feel the effects of.

The stories of people before you should come alive more and more, the more you live. As a young person, you will only see your small world with those closely surrounding you. As you get older, the world will expand and you will see that there is more. But there will come a time where you can shield yourself from that expansion and stay in whatever size world you want- I hope you choose not to do this and instead keep expanding your vision all your life. I hope your worldview is from a Biblical perspective and that you are interested in the happenings of people, animals and lands everywhere in the past, present and future. The more you learn of the vast amount of life there is, the more obvious it will be that God is so big- you can't possibly ignore Him. He has the ability to reign over so much and yet loves you and me.

I love you- good night.
