Obama vs. Romney--- Obama wins
I just read back over what I wrote on the last election night. At the time-- there was just you Jack and we did not even know if you were a boy or a girl. I was straight forward about some things and was watching NBC after voting and looking forward to sloppy joe's.
Tonight-- I am sitting here watching NBC with TWO sleeping boys in the other room. Two boys that went to bed with sloppy joe's empanadas in their tummies!
This time around, I can't say that I dislike Obama. I can say that I see the tone of this country going in a way that will be more and more difficult for an election night to be anything but divisive. I can say that things are better for our family than they were four years ago. We are affected again by completely different things than concerned us four years ago as parents.
Four years from now when you are both in school-- we will be affected yet again by a completely different set of political concerns. I believe that a second term CAN be a positive thing for our country simply because of not losing a year in campaigning at the end and the time spent continuing to work on things already started. The government moves at a snail's pace and I believe in a sense that it should. A government of flawed people (of which we all are) that moved quickly would no doubt make mostly ridiculously short sighted decisions. So, here's to slow moving government. People who wish the government would move quicker don't know two things: 1- how many people live in our country and 2- that people are not equipped to make good decisions at a fast pace. ( or as the Bible shows- people aren't equipped to make good choices at ANY pace!)
Your dad and I took you two to the local polling place here in San Juan Capistrano around the corner from the Mission and the school where we go together. It was so cool to each have one of you in our arms as we voted, you got stickers and I took Jack's picture in front of the flag. Pretty cool.
I love you-- I hope that you learn to love this country. I hope that you learn to listen to the opinions of others with care. I hope that you learn to base your opinions on God's word, not with the fast changing tides of the world. But when your opinions ARE based on what God says and it differs from that of another person-- don't throw away your gift by showing others contempt or disdain because of their stance. Be gentle, be kind. Oh-- how I'm asking a lot of you. But I believe you can do it!
Perhaps one of you will serve our country in politics---- perhaps one of you will be the President of the United States. Although if you ask me-- pretty tough lookin' job.
Love you lovebugs.
