To Jack and Charlie

Trying but terrific

These past few weeks have been just this- trying but terrific. I have wanted to tell you about things a lot lately but have had little time to write before 11pm when I only have one eye open. Hardly the time to share the fact that you Jack had ten time outs and two swats that day. There have been many times where you have both quite literally stomped your feet and screamed NO!!!! as you were “dissuaded” from doing something and there have also been just as many times where you gave a kiss or a nose-nose or a snuggle while reading. Today was no different. At the grocery store, I had given Jack the challenge of helping me pick up the items to put into the stroller. When I was looking at something else, you picked up an 18-count eggs carton. When I said, “oh! Jack- here let me help you with that!” you started to giggle hysterically and run away from me in circles around Charlie in the stroller holding the eggs. I chased you around a few times and my mind was already starting to picture the eggs all over and throwing my body into the air to make sure you did not slip and fall. I heard myself laughing even though my voice was serious. I finally reached you just in time for the carton to open and eggs to be exposed. I somehow managed to catch the carton in time to keep all the eggs in. I tried to explain to you how close we got to a mess and trying to hold back laughs so that you would not do it every time we go to the store.

Then, we came back home and had a great time doing gardening in the backyard with some new plants we got together today. Tough little Charlie—laughing and running around in the grass like a wild man. When we came in to wash hands and take a nap- I noticed that you had cactus barbs sticking out of your arm! We took an impromptu bath for both of you and got them all out- you were so tough!

I actually have to go because I can hear one of you waking up. I’ll be back sooner than later my lovebugs!
